We Could Be So Good is an achingly beautiful  historical romance that depicts queer life in 1958-1959. I hung on every word from start to finish. I have never read a book that so expertly weaves the undercurrent of tension and sense of very real danger that’s lurking around every potential corner queer people experienced during this time period. The writing is just stellar.

I’m not often a fan of split perspective but it weaves this story together so, so well. I loved the characters and the cat and that Nick begrudgingly loved the cat.

My heart just aches for the older generation of queer folks who had even less safety to live fully and authentically and queer folks do today. Makes me grateful we’ve made the progress we have and furious about how very far we have left to go still - and how far we seem to be being set back this year.

I highly recommend this book and already eagerly await a future re-read.
