What a delightful little book! I had very little expectations or knowledge about this book going in and I was presently surprised! This is my first book by the author. I even sobbed at the last 20%
This book defines found family. It proves that you can find your family anywhere and the people you call your home, doesn’t always have to be blood related. I resonated so much with Addy’s thoughts on motherhood, especially with being so young and still chasing dreams. I loved the chemistry, I loved Isla (which is great because sometimes having kids written in books can either make or break) and I did enjoy the brotherhood of the hockey boys.
However, the reason why I am not able to give it a full 5 star is because the conversations can sometimes be a little odd. They’re referring to each other as brother, girl, etc and I don’t know if it’s a regional thing (?) maybe people out there do talk like that but it just felt odd and out of place? Just feels weird that EVERYONE, even the family that just moved to the place is speaking the same way.
Some other things that made me a little eh was that all the boys seemed to blend into each other personality wise so I’m hoping that would be addressed in future books.
The book also went from 0 to 100 with the last 10% or so with “the incident”. I am undecided if I enjoyed that or not. It felt a little too over the top dramatic and a little off key from the other 80%.
I would have loved to know what Addy is gonna do with her life now and if she’s gonna be pursuing her dreams too. Feels like she never got the closure that I needed from the book.
Overall a solid decent first book in the series!
