A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
5.0
Fantasy isn't really my thing AT ALL, but I LOVE Game of Thrones.
Season one of the show nails the first book down to the smallest details. It's impressive. It's almost pointless to read the book if you've seen the show. But I was so lost during season one because there are so many characters that I read the book instead of rewatching the season.
Plus, it adds some details that the show had to leave out, and I love the show so much that I'm glad to have a deeper understanding of the characters and their backstories.
(True shit you may not know: Tywin Lannister and his wife Joanna were cousins. lol, that means Joffery's even more inbred than we realized.)
I was worried if I read the book I'd be even more confused, but as it turns out it actually helped me figure out who's who, and I picked up on some details in the book that I hardly noticed when I was watching the show. I still had some trouble keeping track of some of the minor characters, but it wasn't bad at all. I think I could hold my own playing Game of Thrones Jeopardy now.
