Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

3.0

3.5 Stars!

Apparently, this is the year for alien loving and for the most part, I’m here for it.

The premise is the same. Human women are being abducted by nefarious green men and through sheer determination and some luck, they happen to escape and fall right into the arms of some very titillating aliens. For this series that means giant blue horned/tailed men who only want someone to call their own because their existence is precarious due to reproductive limitations.

When compared to that other MF alien series I’ve been greatly enjoying, this is way smuttier and grittier as it’s set on a primitive, perpetual winterland with all sorts of dangers and challenges.

This first book focuses on Georgie, who takes a stand against her captors and then finds help once she and several other women crash on “Not-Hoth” (Star Wars fans would know the reference), she luckily runs into clan leader Vektal who immediately recognizes her as his mate. The initial intimate interaction was way too over the top and kinda yuck for me (you’ll just have to read it to understand where I’m coming from) but despite that “not for me” beginning, this really settled in nicely, and I thoroughly enjoyed the clash between Georgie and Vektal. Extra points for an ingenious setup that Dixon provides regarding communication and the mate bond.

So, in conclusion, it’s a no-brainer that I'm off to read the next!
