i am so grateful to have been an ARC reader for each of EM’s books. It has been amazing to see her grow as an author in her writing and characters.

That being said, I absolutely adored this spin off of her original trilogy. Set a few years later, it was great to see a different aspect to the mage/sheild world.

I enjoyed being back in the school, this time from a Sheild’s perspective. I loved the way that the Sheild’s studies seemed to focus more on combat and protection, but they were still required to have studies outside of combat as well. It forces them to be well balanced and not just the muscle.

I thought that Del was such an thorough character. I will say to check the trigger warnings as she has some extra pressures on her that cause her to lash out in an unhealthy way, but that representation was done so respectfully.

This book was such a great and easy read and I can not wait to see what else EM does.
