You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
5.0
Stars: 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
You Should See Me in a Crown is one of those books that leaves you feeling good. Yes, the world can be absolute sh*t sometimes, but it can also be beautiful. Humans can be cruel, but they can also be magnificent.
My one issue with the book - and it's an issue I have with many contemporary novels - is the miscommunication between our MC and the love interest. I just don't believe it anymore when something small becomes a huge issue simply because the character won't talk about it. If it's a big issue that is difficult to talk about, that is totally fair, butwanting to win a scholarship doesn't feel like something you need to hide...
Other than that, the book was amazing, so I'm not *that* mad about it.
The black and queer rep in this was amazing to me, and I hope everyone gives this book a chance and reads it and loves it!
Trigger/content warning: homophobia, racism, illness, death of a parent, divorce, mental illness, bullying.
