The Book of Night Women by Marlon James
4.0
Whew! This was a hard read. I had to set it down and walk away at times. “The emotional bullshit of slavery” (taken from another reviewer of this book) is haunting and heavy!!! This vivid historical novel of a 1800’s Jamaican sugar plantation not only depicts absolute vileness of slave owners but the incredible strength, courage, and effort of people enslaved to live. I’m in awe of the tenacity and fortitude! And it although it’s incredibly uncomfortable, reading and learning about this is important for me.
