Alison by Lizzy Stewart

4.0

Alison is a nuanced, insightful look at the art scene of late 70s/early 80s London, told from the perspective of a young woman from Dorset who begins a love affair with a much older, famous painter. Lizzy Stewart takes what's best about the graphic memoir format but with the advantage of a fictional story to weave everything together thematically.

I loved the art, which shifts from drawing to more painterly images and merging of the two. My only issue was the typeface and layout of the text on some pages. I wasn't concerned by the amount of text but found the typeface distracting and clunky, especially when justified left in columns on some pages with images.
