this is the second book in a series but it could also be read as a standalone. compared to the fields, i think the storyline in original sins is a lot more grounded in reality. the pacing could be a bit dragging at times (there are some parts that could be cut out and it wouldn't impact the story), though the book definitely picks up near the end. 

overall, original sins is perfect for those who don't mind their crime procedurals slow-paced.
