“You’re beautiful without adornment, Christian, It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing. But in your skirts? In those heels? You shine from the inside. And seeing that? I’m enraptured.” - Emil
"If Emil needs someone to be there for him, I'll show up, Time and time again." - Christian
This is the first book I read from this author, I'm definitely reading more from this serie and her books in general. I really love her writing style, it's very easy and addicting to read.
This book has everything I need in a book: found family, good conversation, respect, making sure the people the characters cared about are okay and it even has pets (hermit crabs 🦀)
I loved Emil and Christian so much, they really understood each other and talked about their feelings. It was clear from the beginning that there was a connection between the two and that they could trust each other.
This felt very original and I loved the friendship/coworkers so much. They made a safe work investment and that is especially very important in the work that they do.
About Emil: I really loved his that there were parts about his study, I think the brain is so interesting. He is a lovely person that has his own struggles and It's so good of him that he's going to a therapist. The mental health representation was so good.
About Christian: I love that he wears what he wants, it really makes him happy and he deserves to be who he is, I loved the parts about his grandmother so much, she really helped him find his true self. I love that Emil helps him with that even though it makes me sad every time Christian asks if he "should" change his clothes. He is just so sweet and understanding to the people around him. And him thinking of his boyfriend and what the crabs would like for dinner. ADORABLE
"Sometimes I feel like I'm missing some important piece. Like something was left out during manufacturing, and now I don't function the way I'm supposed to." (That made me feel so seen, that is so me.)
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review. Emmy, you did a great job!
