Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens

3.0

Anna Appelby is a recently divorced mother of two, who's telling herself "everything's fine". Meanwhile, the magazine she works for is struggling, and she's worried she might be fired. To try and save her job, she starts a column where she goes on dates with men chosen by her kids. The catch: she has to work together with Will, her nemisis from work.

This plot immediately caught my attention, but I admit I struggled getting into the story, it felt really slow and I couldn't relate to Anna. Once the plot gets going, it was actually fun and heartwarming. The dates were entertaining, and we get a nice range of men and experiences, with Anna figuring out how to regain her self-confidence. However, knowing that the dates were designed to be nothing and lead to nothing made me not get invested enough. I was also expecting more funny moments with the kids, but there's not a lot, and in general the "com" in this rom-com is very British (dry & sarcastic).

Overall, it was entertaining but very mid.
