She Stitched the Stars: A Story of Ellen Harding Baker's Solar System Quilt by Jennifer Harris

4.0

This blend of history and historical fiction tells the story of a housewife and mother who was fascinated with astronomy and stitched a quilt based on a model of the solar system. The book celebrates the value of women thinking and dreaming beyond the limited roles that society set for them, and manages to do so in a way that seems joyful instead of didactic.

The illustrations are lovely and the text is very nice. This will appeal to kids and adults who are interested in space, and homeschool moms will especially love this book because of the way that it honors domestic pursuits as a platform for education, lifelong learning, and creativity.
