The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

2.0

I am absolutely surprised to see the amount of people who have given this five stars and it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with me.
This book that constantly objectifies a man, has a stalker turn into a love interest and extreme toxic jealousy is a bestseller and being turned into a movie?
Well, now I do know the world is ending.
I cannot believe I read this. I cannot believe I read this.
It is shit. It is unrealistic. I am a postgrad student and I work more in a day than these publishing company employees do throughout this entire book. Their banter is ridiculous. The female lead gave me second hand embarrassment with all this sex craze and the comments. The guy is ridiculous too but I felt bad when he actually had to ask this woman to stop objectifying him. The girl calls him a “beautiful racehorse”. There are other comments exchanged that I did not enjoy by the both of them. But this female lead continued to make me want to facepalm my face off.
At a time when we are upset about female characters about being treated unfairly by authors who write them with a male gaze, cheering this book on would definitely be the most unfair thing I could do, in my opinion. So this book is going down the toilet for me.

The obsession with the guy being tall her being “just” 5 feet. Okay? So what? Should I combust?
Oh God.
I should just stop. You get the drift. It’s shit.

No shade, if you read this for fun. I am glad you enjoyed it. I really could not.
