The Broken Girls by Simone St. James
5.0
I think I found a new author for my favorites list.
Her books are so good. She writes so intense. I'm completely drawn into it and need to keep reading. I flew through this book and actually waited a couple of days to read the last 20 pages. I didn't want it to end.
The mystery of multiple murders, ghost sightings, all surrounding the creepiness of a post-war girls school. The author knows so well how to give every aspect of the story enough attention. Every character gets enough attention to know them well enough to understand their reasons. The ghost parts are intense and made me feel creeped out.
There's two timelines. One just after the Second World War, when the girls school was up and running. The second in the now, following a journalist who has ties with the grounds of the now abandoned school. Multiple timelines sometimes make a story more confusing for me and make it more difficult to get into a book completely. This book used it perfectly. We had to know what happened back then to get to where we are in the present.
I would highly recommend picking something up by this author. Can't wait to read her newest book.
The ghost, murders, and secrets make it a book I couldn't put down.
