This book was so, so good. I cared about Bird immediately and wanted him to succeed in his sneaky treasure hunt. The second half of the book was intense and beautiful and heartbreaking, had me tearing up repeatedly. The Crisis and PACT and the aftermath of it all are so close to reality, or very easy to believe could become reality. I did not want the story to end, I was so invested, but it was a fitting end. Some things I liked: a boy following clues looking for his mother. A mother whose poetry unwittingly becomes the slogan for a revolution, gathering stories of other missing children. A father trying to keep his son safe. Libraries being a kind of underground railroad. Many love stories and grief and hope.
