The Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin
5.0
If reading a book was like watching a car crash. There were so many sections here where I was glued to the page, unable to look away, despite how utterly heartbreaking it was. I’m really struggling with a review, I can’t explain why this grabbed me so. This is a rough read, so if you’re thinking about this one, please read the content warning first.
Do not get me wrong; it was a phenomenal read. The prose and the atmosphere just draw you into an insane story.
One of my favourite elements was where we start the story. We start after the main character’s husband has won the war, our main party hiding away and having completely given up. I can imagine this story written by different authors, the story starting actually in the beginning instead of where we did. I thought it was a real benefit, to have all this back story we slowly explore.
I would go into this as blindly as you could; other than reading the content warnings. I immediately moved this book to my favourites shelf. (I will also kill for the sequel, please and thanks.)
