Three Women by Lisa Taddeo
5.0
One of the best pieces of non-fiction I’ve read in a long time. Taddeo followed the lives of these women over the course of 8 years immersing herself in their communities and exploring every angle of each of their stories. The main thing tying their narratives together is how our society punishes women for having desire.
The long timeline of the book makes it an interesting time capsule. Repeated references to Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey, and camping out waiting for tickets to a Harry Potter movie premiere left me reminiscing about a not so distant past. It also reinforced the notion that we have not come nearly as far as we’d like to think we have when it comes to making the world a better place to be a woman.
