Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin
3.5
Im in two minds about this book, on the one hand I’m not sure I have ever been so seen in a stream of consciousness narrative, the way Gilda thinks and processes is true of myself and it was incredible, and slightly terrifying, to see that laid out. I also think the story has a lot of potential, the hilarious misunderstandings; misreading situations, panicking and lying to avoid confrontation are all traits I recognise in myself. That said, some of the decisions Gilda made were just so ridiculous I couldn’t get behind them at all, and it personally bought me out of the narrative a bit. I also wasn’t a fan of the everything tied up with a bow ending which seemed to come very suddenly! I think the amount I related to Gilda and her thoughts made me want to love this book way more than I did and so I can’t quite justify rating it too highly! Excited to read more Emily Austin though :))
