Birds Art Life: A Year of Observation by Kyo Maclear

3.0

I was hoping to connect more with this book. Instead I was left feeling as if the author was just skimming the surface, skittering across the top of the water like a skipping stone. There wasn't much depth to her "observations". In fact, the entire "following this mysterious musician around Toronto to look for birds" scenario really didn't work for me.

As the title states, the author spent a year following this guide around to get an understanding (I suppose) of why he was so interested in birds. Then there's something about her husband, then her kids, friends who were jailed in Egypt then released. She also throws in a few dashes of climate change, the environment and the decline of many bird species. It was too much and yet not enough at the same time.
