I started reading The Hermetic Millennia right after finishing Count to a Trillion. Count to a Trillion ended on a cliffhanger, and unfortunately The Hermetic Millennia even more so ends right in the middle of the action.

However, I feel that The Hermetic Millennia was the stronger book with a better structure. It’s interesting how 8,000 years of history are revealed to us and to Menelaus (the protagonist). Menelaus has been unexpectedly woken up from cryogenic slumber and must use his wits to conceal his identity from his captors while trying to figure out what has happened.

The Hermetic Millennia is a good mix of adventure and grand science fiction. It reminded me of “Planet of Adventure” by Jack Vance, with the different races and the cocky/confident protagonist.
Overall it’s enjoyable book for fans of science fiction
