Dune by Frank Herbert
5.0
Just as good the second time around. While some things bothered me this time - few female characters, the Magic Messiah Jesus nature of Paul - I found myself not caring that much because the worldbuilding and setting were just SO GOOD. Also a good political machination, as always, gets me interested, and this book had some plots within plots. While the chapter header "excerpts" from conversations and writings did not always fit the plot, they added to the world in many ways. Including cluing me in that Herbert did his research on religion and politics, as well as ecology, when laying the foundation for Dune. Several of those statements still strike home today, almost 60 years after he wrote them.
It's a classic for many reasons, and still worth reading today.
