How to Keep House While Drowning: A Gentle Approach to Cleaning and Organizing by KC Davis

5.0

not even being dramatic when I say this book has deeply influenced my thinking & ameliorated my day to day. as someone with clinical depression & anxiety(🤪), the hardest thing for me sometimes can be care tasks. theyre never ending and needed to survive. cleaning & cooking in times of overwhelm can literally lead me to panic which at the same time, can lead to a spiral of shame since these are such fundamental necessities that it feels elementary to have such a mixed relationship with them…this book entirely debunked that entire notion and provided concrete ways to make care tasks work for you.

I have so so many notes that I will not list here bc I’m sure I’d reach a word limit, but I felt so incredibly affirmed. Written by a therapist, Davis uses accessible language/formatting & beautifully supports those of us who struggle with our mental health. Legitimate got emotional listening to this short but to the point book. My difficulty with executive dysfunction (particularly task imitation) has plagued me for quite some time (ask my therapist lol) & this is such a wonderful resource. I truly don’t have anything more to say other than continuing to rave and gush over this book. I think I will continue to revisit throughout my life…especially if I ever become a parent as Davis touches on parenthood a solid amount and how the stress can build when needing to care for another human. Truly truly just spectacular. I will need to actually get a physical copy. If I could tattoo this into my brain I would.
