Americus by MK Reed
4.0
Americus is a story that's for all the outcast kids, the goths and queers and feminists - and especially the bookworms - who grew up in small towns where they didn't feel like they fit in. Protagonist Neil Barton is a tween turning into a teen who's struggling to adapt to high school without his best friend, while a group of conservative Christian parents try to ban his favourite book series from the local library. While it's not a subtle book it is heartfelt and made my inner child felt seen. The art is solid, and the topic is extra relevant given the rise in recent conservative book banning efforts.
