Nichelle Clark, crime reporter at The Tribune in Virginia, covers a pretty busy beat in Richmond, VA. After nearly dying a few months ago, she's been very busy, constantly trying to outdo her TV counterpart. Her dream is, one day, to cover politics, and when a series of crimes start showing a bunch of politicians, things start getting even more complicated.

I really like Nichelle. Her love of shoes and her dog is great, though I feel bad for her pupper being home alone so much! She had a sharp, amusing sense of humor, a keen mind, and a nose for trouble. I like the supporting cast a lot as well, I don't feel like they're just cardboard cutouts. Some of the dueling romantic interests actually keeps me interested, too, oddly enough. The villains seem at least mostly believable.

Walker can really keep up the tension and find clever ways to twist events around. It's obvious in retrospect that she was a journalist in her previous life, and it really felt like a peek into that world. The pacing was great in both of these books, it kept me turning the metaphorical pages!

Therese Plummer did a stellar job! She has a very ... flexible? ... voice and really manages to get in the tongue-in-cheek and emotional tones into the narration.

Obviously I like it enough to keep on with the series! Bless audible for having the series member sale (which I spent too much on). I have the third one and will be reading it in the near future.
