From the Sideline by Amy Avanzino
5.0
Amy is my sister-in-law, I have known her for 25 years, and still this book had me shaking my head at how hilarious, brilliant and talented she is, how wry and observant. This book, her second, had me at turns audibly laughing and feeling those pangs and pulls that only parents can feel. I loved her first book, [b:Wake-Up Call|25535596|Wake-Up Call (#1)|Amy Avanzino|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1431583276s/25535596.jpg|45325990], but this one was even better. Amy observes the human condition with amazing clarity and sharpness, but she has a really light touch, saying more with little parenthetical asides than I can in pages. If you like football (or want to skewer the foibles of suburban American youth sports culture), if you have kids (or want to get a sense of the wild emotional rides they can send us on), if you have ever felt not quite good enough or had a hard time in a relationship, or are interested in engaging the many ways in which we can be our own best defenders and or own worst opponents, you should check this book out. You'll love it.
Great job, Ames!
