The poetry is beautifully layered and detailed. Simple but effective language and style that in some cases do, intentionally, evoke a deceptive sense of innocence. A strong presence of the duality of the soul evident throughout the anthology. The poetry is separated into two distinct parts, a duologue of sorts, that explores both the innocent and the experienced parts of the human condition. Some of the speakers depict their world as they see it and are actually limited by their perceptions and experiences which is purposeful. The characters embody the two states of the soul. Common themes include man questioning Nature that resonates quite well with contemporary society. One of my favourite things about this anthology is how many of the poems mirror each other in each half collection and only differ depending on which voice they are written in.
I don’t really have any criticisms that I can think of other than the fact that I maybe didn’t love every single poem. Some poems definitely stood out to me and have become some of my all-time favourite poems, ones that I have and will continue to reread.
