Oedipus the King by Stephen Berg

5.0

Would never have expected to be so effected by the tragedy here, given that everyone already knows the story of Oedipus - several characters included. But the horror of it, the wishing for it not to be true, the desperation from Oedipus and from Jocasta... it really got to me. I don't have other translations to compare it to, but this read smoothly and emotively. More plays should be translated by poets, I think.

I dearly wish I'd read this before studying Antigone - it would have changed a lot of how I analyse Creon - but oh well.
