Just finished this book with the biggest smile on my face. This book does discuss some harder topics such as homiphobia, dysfunctional families, and racism. It wasn't the fluffy read I thought it was going to be, and I'm so glad that it wasn't. This book had a rawness to it that felt so real. Adien and Maggie took their time to get to know each other and build a strong bond before jumping into anything serious.
Maggie and Adien are both older and introverts who enjoy online gaming. They meet unconventionally in an online gaming guild without realizing they've run into each other in person before. After Adien fractures his foot, Maggie and him finally "meet" in person and start up a friendship that was literally the sweetest friendship ever.
They both supported each other with everything. They had open communication. There was no judgment between the two of them, and it was fantastic to read about. While Maggie is dealing with her son going to college and becoming even more of a recluse than she already was, Adien is left to take care of his elderly mother, who is a horrid woman. Maggie and Adien both have their own problems, but they never let that get in the way of their friendship and their relationship they eventually had.
This was the perfect book to end 2023 on and one that I will be thinking about and recommending to all my romance reading friends.
