The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski

5.0

Amazing tour de force, this book. Among my lifetime top ten I think (though I haven't actually compiled that list.) Like Hamlet before him, Edgar suspects his uncle in his father's death. And his efforts to get to the bottom of that tangle end about as successfully as Hamlet's. But the Wisconsin farm country setting ... the deep dog-to-human connections in this dog-breeding family farm ... the amazingly non-anthropomorphic chapters written from a dog's point of view ... all this is sheer wonder. Powerfully and lyrically written, it pulls the reader magnetically along.
