The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles
Did not finish book.
DNFed at 36%. Let me explain.
I got really excited to read this book. I had the afternoon free and I was gonna finish it in a day and watch the movie after cause I liked the trailer. But I started reading, and here's the really annoying part: the characters.
Now I know, this was a Wattpad book at the beginning (I could write an essay about Wattpad and how cancerous it is), and this book was written by a teen girl. The writing isn't too bad (with some dialogue problems that stand out), but I was done with it a third in. I can't subject myself to those classic Wattpad tropes, I'm taking a four month break from a Wattpad book I promised I'd finish and dissect. What stands out here as characteristics? The naivety of the main character, the selfishness of her best friend, and all the angst and even more selfishness of the love interest. Pepper in some promises that get broken, lies and a secretive relationship, all of that wrapped in a cheesy plot that you cannot see ending well.
Yeah, fucking Wattpad.
I'm gonna go and try to find a palate cleanser now.
