Wrong Answers Only by Tobias Madden
3.0
I have loved Tobias Madden since his writing debut, I have multiple copies of Anything But Fine, and Take a Bow Noah Mitchell- both copies can also be found in my all boys school library, but this one sadly didn’t hit the mark for me.
His previous two works, while dealing with complex themes that can plague teens who are coming of age, were books that left me feeling warm and fuzzy throughout, had me giggling like a school kid while also tearing up at the end of the book. I do think that this book felt more serious than his previous two books, but just had the fun cruise ship setting in the Mediterranean. Sadly though I felt no connection to our main character, Marcos. The premise was so promising, but with little to no buy in with Marcos it meant that I just didn’t enjoy it very much. I didn’t like Marcos’ parents, and as a result I didn’t like the direction the ending took.
I can never fault the quality of Tobias’ work. The book is beautifully written, and does come with some good lessons about life, relationships and family dynamics. I have always loved reading books by Tobias, and will continue to spruik them all, including Wrong Answers Only.
