The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

5.0

Been holding onto my review for this one because it's a book I needed to let marinate.

First, let me say my sister picked this for me when I needed a new read and I was hesitant, mainly because I've been primarily disappointed in any book that says it's about libraries or bookstores being magical. I've been disappointed many times and only pleasantly surprised by a few. This book was a great surprise. And I read it at a great time.

Nora is depressed. Everything in life seems wrong because of decisions she's made. When she finds herself in the Midnight Library she has an option to try any book of her life to see where other decisions could have taken her. Would she be happy, famous, trapped in another miserable existence?

Each life, or book, was well thought out, giving insight into the unexpected things that happen when we make even the smallest changes. It's one part It's a Wonderful Life, one part Being Erica, all parts magical and engaging. I would gift this book to anyone needing a pick-me-up or the cause of their next book hangover.
