The Sea King by C. L. Wilson
3.0
It's funny how a second half a book can completely shift away from the opinion held on its first half.
I really liked how this book began, but the second half utterly lost me.
Now, while I did enjoy many facets even at the beginning Itook issue with Summer/Gabriella, both with how the narrative would flip back and forth on what name to use for her, and in how she constantly rejected and pushed back at Dilys. It become so darn repetitive. I could withstand it in the first half of the book, expecting a change in the second half-- but, for the most part, it's just more of the same throughout the narrative minus maybe 20% of it.
And, to make matters worse, the second half decides to introduce some triggering scenes in the form of. Scenes totally unnecessary, I was stunned at their inclusion.
I began this one enjoying the story and ended it completely frustrated by the story. I don't understand several choices made throughout this one.
Dilys was a terrific hero, but Gabriella was a frustrating heroine. And while it definitely had moments I thoroughly enjoyed, the overall plot was a jumbled mess.
