Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science That Will Transform Your Sex Life by Emily Nagoski

5.0

If I could assign reading to everyone I know, I would assign this book. Yes, it is about sex (primarily, women's sexuality), but it is about *so much more than that.* It's about human relationships, evolution, emotion, psychology, stress and stress response, self-esteem and confidence, science...and, yes, it all ties back to sex, but the applications of the concepts stretch well beyond that (very important!) focus as well.

I was moved by this quote in the book:

"The day you were born, the world had a choice about what to teach you about your body. It could have taught you to live with confidence and joy inside your body. It could have taught you that your body and your sexuality are beautiful gifts. But instead, the world taught you to feel critical of and dissatisfied with your sexuality and your body. You were taught to value and expect something from your sexuality that does not match what your sexuality is. You were told a story about what would happen in your sexual life, and that story was false. You were lied to. I am pissed, on your behalf, at the world for that lie. And I am working to create a world that doesn't lie to women about their bodies anymore. I can't change the injury that the world inflicted on you, and neither can you. What you can do is heal" (Nagoski, 327).

This book offers so many steps, perspectives, and information to start exactly that healing.
