This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar
5.0
"Letters are structures, not events. Yours give me a place to live inside."
This book was very confusing when I first started reading it. I'm always intimidated by sci-fi, it's such a hit or miss for me. But this was a hit. A definite hit. A wonderfully painful hit. This book set root and now lives within me. The writing is poetic and beautiful, it makes me feel, without being able to name the specific feeling. I can't wait to reread this in the future. I need a physical copy so I can annotate it!
"But if you hunger, I swell. You have me watching birds, and though I don’t know their names like you know them, I have seen small bright singers puff before they trill. That’s how I feel. I sing myself out to you, and my talons clutch the branch, and I am wrung out until your next letter gives me breath, fills me to bursting."
