The Empty Throne by Bernard Cornwell

4.0

Uhtred evolves!
Finally, our MC reflects on his life and we see some serious character development. His ability at 50+ injured, and apparently stinky (channelling Henry VIII) to bed the most beautiful women in the land is still perplexing but, hey, why ruin the fantasy with truth?
His son takes a more upfront role, which is nice and also brings a waft of youth to the aging MC and story line.
Descriptions and environments, as ever, are beautifully done and I enjoyed Uhtred's interactions with his children.
