This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar

5.0

I'm having a hard time articulating just how much I loved this book, which is almost fitting, considering how beautiful the language is. The characters have their own voices and personalities, and the world building is done so exceptionally well, never feeling heavy-handed or like an info-dump. I split this between reading and listening to the audio book, which was a true delight - the performers there were marvelous.

This is going on my short list for the Hugos, and anything else I can come up with. Fellow writers, this is a study in how you tell stories in a non-traditional manner, and how you work poetry into your prose. Beautiful, beautiful work.
