Final thoughts: As much as this could be long, a little daunting and at times slightly a little slow, King captures his audience by really writing about the every day nuances of life, especially as a kid. This really resonates with readers as most can relate to the ways of being a kid and the friends you had and the things you got up to. This also pulled at childhood fears in a good way too. Yes there was plenty of build up, the first half of this book (500 pages) is build up for what’s to come, what comes is quite terrifying and gruesome and it was written well. The ending was a little soft, but this reader didn’t completely hate it as it felt really reflective of the events of the novel. In the end, this was a chilling reread, and one that was interesting to revisit. The thoughts the reader had back in 2017 (see review below) still stand true today.

Nothing is alright in the town of Derry, Maine. Children have started to go missing and die and it’s the people around and related to them who are affected. Seeing their deepest fears in It a group of seven kids decide that they need to beat It. Over the span of roughly 30 years something brings all of them back to Derry for one last hurrah, and it is time to beat It once and for all. This novel had one hell of a plot; completely creepy and utterly terrifying, King has created a masterpiece of pure terror. The plot was entertaining and frightening, but that’s what kept the reader to propel further into the depths of this story, and there were many depths. The story wasn’t told in chronological order which threw the reader off at times, trying to figure out what year it was, and if the characters were children or adults. That was a little jarring, but it enhanced the story a lot because it led to our introduction to our characters in the best way possible. These characters were so well done; King gives them so much back story and development as the years pass in the novel that they feel so real, they could just walk into the reader’s life. It’s amazing how much detail was put into every aspect of this novel, from locations, to characters, to what characters were doing, it was all so calculated, yet thrilling to read.
