The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry
2.0
The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry centres on Hannah and Christopher's marriage and fertility issues and the subsequent adoption of Janie, who is an abandoned and abused child with severe health problems.
Christopher forms a very close attachment with Janie very quickly, that is very unhealthy, damaging to her recovery, and he is completely blindsided by her behaviour. This leaves Hannah feeling like an outsider and I completely sympathised with her character, even throughout all of the plot twists later in the book.
This book has a great storyline and initial premise but unfortunately I thought that the execution was poor and there were a lot of questionable red flags and plot holes that didn't add up. There should be a trigger warning list for this book, as I certainly wasn't expecting some of the disturbing content.
As other readers have discussed, the worst part of this book was the abrupt ending. It honestly felt like the final chapters were completely missing and this open ending with no resolution and unanswered questions definitely impacted my enjoyment of the book.
If you want to give this disturbing thriller a go, I would recommend the Audible narration.
⭐️⭐️ 2/5
