This is probably a case of the book just not going to my taste, I'm not a huge fan of either military history or girl pretends to be boy to do something girls aren't allowed to do stories. But I did enjoy parts of this book and I at least learned a little about that period in Chinese history, even if this is alternate. I'm not sure if I will read the sequel, maybe if it fits a challenge prompt in future.
