Can I Be Your Dog? by Troy Cummings

4.0

Letters from homeless Arfy begging the people of Butternut Street to be their dog. He even asks at the old, abandoned house. Told in letter form, Arfy highlights his best qualities, while the reader gets the sense of isolation, loneliness and longing to belong to a family that all abandoned animals probably feel. A great way to teach "adopt, don't shop," homelessness and makes you want to run out and adopt a dog!
