Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

3.0

While I did enjoy reading Conversations with friends, I can't say the plot or characters made me feel engaged in the story. The writing is good and many descriptions stood out to me as very beautiful. I often found myself relating to a lot of the main character, particularly in her experience with self-harm, but the characters often make choices that seem to be without any particular reasoning, which made them boring or unlikeable at times. What makes this book good instead of OK is Frances introspective ramblings, which feel very relatable to someone in her age range. Overall, I think I left this book feeling a lack of resolutions of a lot of themes, which were just kind of left hanging in the air.
