I still not entirely sure what I was expecting from The Brightest Night, but it fulfilled all my expectations anyway. Not only did Sunny finally get her chance to shine away from the group, but the first part of this series concluded perfectly, despite me not knowing how Sutherland was planning on tying everything up. I loved the part the scavengers got to play in this novel, as well as the symbolism of the prophecy coming true in its own way, despite the revelation at the end of The Dark Secret that it was never real. Despite how it was Sunny’s novel, much the same as with Clay’s, each of the group was involved in the conclusion as they were in the beginning of this saga, and everything comes full circle very nicely. I’ll admit I wasn’t originally planning on reading any of the new additions to this series—when I read it for the first time, it was only five books long, and seemed it might stay that way—but after remembering why I loved these books as much as I do, I’ll probably be moving on to the next five at some point. Especially since I’m a sucker for the academy or school setting.
