All the Beautiful Lies by Peter Swanson
1.0
Oh Peter, you were right on the fence with me and you fell off. I first read his second book, The Kind Worth Killing, and I thought it was pretty good. So I read his first, The Girl with a Clock for a Heart, and was astounded at how amateurish and just bad it was. But if someone can improve that much between books 1 & 2, I was perfectly willing to give book 3, Her Every Fear, a try. Alas, I didn't like the story. But a lot of people did, maybe just my taste. It featured a thrill killer, whose identity is revealed about halfway through the book, so the lack of suspense combined with the fact that I hate thrill killers anyway lost me at that point. Now here comes book 4....and it started off fine. There is hope. I was a little disturbed by the fact that again, there is an early reveal of the potential bad guy, but surely there will be more to the story then that. Not much, unfortunately. Murky motives, a plot device STOLEN FROM BREAKING BAD, you will not convince me that it wasn't unless Peter passes a polygraph swearing he didn't....silly and overly melodramatic climax....a nay vote, I'm afraid.
