Exit Strategy by Martha Wells
5.0
All Systems Red ★★★★★
Artificial Condition ★★★★
Rogue Protocol ★★★★
Exit Strategy ★★★★★
The Murderbot Diaries at its finest! Exit Strategy is so good it made me insane.
There's just something about Murderbot being back with the crew that started all of this that makes my heart flutter. Don't get me wrong, Artifical Condition and are both fantastic (I miss ART terribly), but the emotional rollercoaster that is Muderbot's inner monologue throughout this book is absolutely incredible.
I love that Murderbot is capable of so much brutality and so much kindness all at once. I love reading about it trying to find the balance between those two. I love that it desperately tries to be what it believes itself to be, but can't quite deny itself the opportunity to be what it wants to become. And I love that what it wants isn't to become human, but rather to be its authentic self surrounded by the humans it loves--and yet it can't quite let itself give in to that desire. The angst is just so good, the comfort is so good, it's all just so good!
Everytime Murderbot interacts with Mensah or Gurathin I feel... so many things. I'm insane about them, actually.
There are so many good quotes in this book but here are some of my favorites:

There are so many good quotes in this book but here are some of my favorites:
“A rogue unit would have left a trail of dead bodies across this station.”
I said, “Maybe I wanted the trail to start here.”
I hadn’t been afraid that she wasn’t my friend, I had been afraid that she was, and what that did to me.
She wasn’t afraid of me. And it hit me that I didn’t want that to change.
“I don’t want to be a pet robot.”
“I don’t think anyone wants that.”
That was Gurathin. I don’t like him. “I don’t like you.”
“I know.”
He sounded like he thought it was funny. “That is not funny.”
“I’m going to mark your cognition level at fifty-five percent.”
“Fuck you.”
“Make that sixty.”
“You’ll have to wait to discuss it,” Pin-Lee told them. “It can’t enter into any contractual agreements until it completes its memory rebuild.”
“Why?” I asked her. “Because my owner says so?”
“No, asshole,” Pin-Lee said. “Because I’m your legal counsel.”
