Demon from the Dark by Kresley Cole
4.0
In the last book, we finally turned a corner in the over-arching plot. So of course I had to jump on the next one to see what happens. Loreans from all factions have been abducted by a mysterious group, one of them being Carrow Graie - a witch who derives power from the happy emotions of those around her. Pretty hard to come by when you're being held captive and tortured. Carrow makes a deal with her captor to hunt for an elusive vemon in exchange for her and her ward's freedom. Malkom Slaine has suffered unimaginable things by the hands of vampires. His past is brutal (lots of trigger warnings) and he's now part demon, part vampire. I absolutely loved Malkom's character! He was a strange mix of brutish and incredibly sweet. He and Carrow have a language barrier which makes their interactions pretty humorous, but also leads to some heart wrenching moments. I can't wait to see what the other captives are up to!
