Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice by Phillip Hoose
5.0
So happy that Claudette Colvin was able to receive more recognition for her place in civil rights history. She was a very strong teen who helped catalyst desegregation in the South due to her refusal to move when a white woman wanted her seat on the bus--she came before Rosa Parks but due to her age and lies about her behavior toward the white policemen called to respond to her insubordination Claudette was not seen as the right face for the bus boycott or desegregation lawsuit against the city.
The text is made up of many passages of interviews the author had with Colvin, as well as other interviews, and primary resources. Overall a very well put together historical account that is very approachable and interesting.
