The Alpha and His King by Kiki Clark
2.0
I got this book before I even knew The Mobster’s Mate existed, yet I found myself DNFing this at 74% to start (and finish) Quentin and Caden’s story in a day, while finding myself with zero desire to pick this back off the shelf.
Honestly, I just didn’t care about the lingering threat of hex bags and intruders and whatever else was happening because there was just… too much of everything and nothing, all at once? I also just didn’t really connect to or care about Kai—most of the characters, really; I was already pretty over them at about the 50% mark, but I stuck it out until the boredom of the overall book got to me.
I even gave the audiobook a listen—Kirt Graves has a lovely voice—but I ended up stopping at around the same point. The MCs just weren’t likable enough for me care about their ending, though I know the gist from TMM; it seemed to be much more convoluted of a storyline than was necessary, and it all got out of hand.
