As a Singaporean, the so-called "street language" used isn't accurate at all. Singlish, as we call it, combines English, several Chinese dialects and Malay. Therefore, it cannot just be in broken English, which is basically what this book is written in. As a result, it was extremely irritating to read. I love accents and dialects when used in dialogue but I really don't think it's necessary for the narrator. Moreover, there are many words that someone from the protagonist's background would never use. The story did not grab me either, nor did I become invested in the characters.
