Brutal Precious by Sara Wolf
5.0
Sooo in the final book of this not-your-typical romance trilogy, where, well, we're still waiting for the romance to hit us hard finally because come on, they freaking deserve at this stage to be with each other.
It was painful to read because of all the s**t that has happened in the last books, and it just builds up because Isis and Jack still haven't been able to be together.
“Sometimes when life kicks you in the ass, you have to kick it back. In the nuts. With steel-toed boots."
After the shocking death of hanging over her, and Jack's disappearance after the tragedy, Isis Blake faces college.
Moving on in the next stage in her life, Isis tries her best to put on a brave face. She's confused and hurt over Jack leaving even though she understands how he needed to get away. But without a word, Isis has no idea where he is or could be.
“I'm surrounded by people here, but I'm completely alone”
However, Jack isn't the only thing Isis worries about, as she soon realises who else is roaming around her campus. Coming face-to-face with her past, Isis must watch her back as seems to prowl around, taunting her.
“But what kind of barbed love could I offer her? I’m
broken, shattered like a mirror of lies. She would try to pick up my pieces and only cut her delicate fingers on them."
After the shocking death of, Jack Hunter runs off and finds himself joining some sort of law enforcement agents group (or something like that). Stricken with grief and guilt, he tries to get along, even though he is lost. He knows his true feelings for Isis but he doesn't know how to deal with them. He feels like a failure after and so he feels he can't be with Isis even though he still loves her.
However, a case at Isis' university brings Jack and Isis face-to-face once again.
Struggling to find each other again after all they have been through is a tough road which isn't easy for them.
Jack wants to protect her but he still doesn't feel like he deserves her.
“You try to. You try to stop all these injustices, and save people from them. But you never try to save yourself”
Shattered, Isis realises she needs to start taking care of herself.
“Life is too long to be sad.”
has been there from the beginning, having quite an impact on the story of Isis and her character from what he did to her. Appearing in this installment, his character becomes the final battle for Jack Hunter and Isis Blake.
“I love you,” I blurt. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for saying it, but I love you.”
"I will never meet another girl like you, I will never want anyone as much as I want you. I don’t deserve you.”
But they get there in the end. :)
This series AJHSKAUXKA!!! There is a lot more to this last installment but I'm so muddled I'm not really getting it right. However, my feelings about all of this are no less true.
They go through so much. And even though they're still the same characters, they've had to mature and learn to go as they were pushed and pulled.
“But this boy. This stupid, wonderful boy just might be worth it.”
I'm so happy I found this series. It was an amazing story to get sucked into, and I loved the twists and turns even though my heart broke multiple times. Really great romance trilogy that was totally different.
It's Brutal Precious.
“- and I’d be honored to try marriage with you - ”
Jack smiles.
“- you big stupid idiot.”
